Beth Messiah Synagogue

Beth Messiah Synagogue is a messianic congregation of Jewish and non-Jewish people who worship in a Jewish context and believe that Yeshua (Jesus) is the promised Messiah.

Our first Erev Shabbat service was held on September 9, 1977. In 1979 We became a charter member of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC) and became affiliated with the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA).

In the Spring of 2000, we moved to our present location at 7130 Granby St. in Norfolk. The building formerly was owned by Norfolk Christian Elementary School.

In December 2008, we completed a major interior renovation in the sanctuary which now has new carpet, drywall, wood trim, paint, and light fixtures.

Dr. Joseph Rosenfarb

In July 1979 Dr. Joseph Rosenfarb became the first Rabbi of Beth Messiah Synagogue.

Dr. Rosenfarb is an ordained Messianic Rabbi from the UMJC and MJAA. He also has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati.

In 2010 Dr. Rosenfarb and some colleagues formed the Kings College of Jamestown (pdf). The college has been granted accreditation by the state. He is excited about being able to teach Messianic material at the college to clergy and lay folk.
